GNCC RACE REPORT – POWERLINE PARK

COSHOCTON, OH, October 14, 2011 – Two rounds of racing remain in the 2011 GNCC season and the Greg’s ATV team is still preparing for each event as if it were the first round of the year. “The team has done so well this year commented Greg McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “they not only have talent but they have a lot of heart. With two rounds left they are still going strong, focusing on one race at a time.”

Angel Atwell would have a great jump off the line and head into the woods in second place. She would come through the scoring tent in fourth on the first lap but would quickly get back to second. Angel pushed to bring home the win but would finish second, twenty nine seconds out of first and ninth overall. Fellow morning competitor Brycen Neal of the Schoolboy A/B class would have his best race of the season; winning his class and putting together such an impressive ride that he earned third overall to make the morning podium. Kenny Rich Sr. also had a great race in the Masters 50+ class finishing third and 28th overall which leaves him fourth in the point standing’s with two rounds remaining.

As the afternoon race began XC 2 ProAm competitor Gabe Phillips would have a rough start, but true to his form he would begin making up time quickly, checking in on the first lap in seventh place. He would continue to make up ground on the front runners, clinching the second place spot and holding it until he took the checkered flag. This second place finish makes it Gabe’s eighth podium appearance this season. Pat McGuire would run a solid race placing 7th while fellow XC2 ProAm Greg’s ATV team competitor Matt Hanna would finish an impressive seventh place while battling the flu. Support riders Michael Lancaster of the XC2 class would grab the holeshot and early lead while Vet B rider Dave Barton would take his first victory of the 2011 season!

GNCC RACE REPORT – UNADILLA

COSHOCTON, OH, September 15, 2011– With the Summer Break behind the Greg’s ATV Racing Team, they headed to Unadilla in hopes of capturing solid finishes to add to their already successful season. “We are happy to be back to racing” commented McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “with only a handful of races left in the season; we are hungry to get some wins under our belts. I can say that we are more prepared than ever and are looking forward to the final rounds.”

Women’s competitor Angel Atwell was supposed to sit out this round to attend her niece’s wedding. But with the help of a few of her sponsors, she was able to hire a private jet to take her to and from the race, she was able to arrive in time and attend her niece’s wedding. This paid off in a big way as Angel would put in an incredible race to capture her second win of the year along with a second overall AM finish. This would mark her first overall podium appearance in 2011. “I could have never gotten to this race without Greg’s ATV, Laegers, Dirtworks, XC Photos, my boyfriend Dallas, my brother Ed and many other friends and family that worked together to secure a private jet for the race. After a great race I made it back to my nieces wedding; which made for the perfect day” said Angel Atwell.  Fellow morning racer and Greg’s ATV support rider Kenny Rich Sr. had a solid race finishing 3rd in Masters 50+ class and an impressive 25th Overall in the AM event.

XC2 front runner Gabe Phillips would encounter bike problems after a terrible first half of the race fighting a few setup issues. This would cause him to finish 14th in the XC2 class which leaves him in 2nd place in the points standing’s with four rounds remaining. Fellow Greg’s ATV racer Matt Hanna  would grab the holeshot award, compete within the top five for the entire afternoon and finish the day in 6th place in the XC2 class. Pat McGuire would put in another solid race finishing on the podium of the XC2 class in 3rd place which has landed him the third place spot in the XC2 class points standing’s. Greg’s ATV support rider Michael Lancaster ran in the top 5 all day long, and unfortunately got tangled up on the last lap to finish 8th in XC2 and 21st Overall.

Overall I cannot be more proud of my team’s performance this round” said McNemar “they worked hard over the break and with the exception of the unfortunate turn of events for Gabe we really had a great weekend. We will get the issues handled that Gabe experienced so he can be back in full force for the next round of racing.”

GNCC RACE REPORT – THE JOHN PENTON

COSHOCTON, OH, July 14, 2011– After this weekend’s John Penton event, it is time for summer break! “I know the summer break is welcomed and in most cases needed” commented McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “but the break is bitter sweet for our team as we are anxious to get back out there and make up for this past weekend.”

In the Women’s class Angel Atwell was able to grab a great start following only her niece Kristen into the first corner. She was able to gain the lead and would retain it for nearly the entire first lap. At the end of that first lap Angel’s quad would begin to bog down and back fire which would, unfortunately, lead to her machine completely dying on the course early in the second lap. The culprit would be unforeseen electrical problems which the team has already addressed and corrected. With this finish, Angel is currently 3rd in the Women’s class points standing’s.

As if Angel’s electrical problems were not enough, the Greg’s ATV Team would struggle in the afternoon event as well. Gabe Phillips would get off to a decent start only to get tangled up and take a nasty spill in the second corner. The entire XC2 class would be long gone by the time he was able to get himself and his machine going again. Gabe would put in a remarkable ride; he would pick riders off one by one as the day progressed. He would end the day just shy of the podium in 4th place. Pat McGuire would put in another solid ride, holding onto 2nd for the majority of the afternoon.  On the last lap Pat would continue to push forward only to throw a chain, which ended his day with a 16th place finish. Matt Hanna also had a great race going only to lose a battery mid way through the event.  He was able to come into the pits where the team was able to make the needed repair but the damage had been done. He would push forward to salvage as many points as possible, he would finish 7thfor the day.

On a positive note, Greg’s ATV support rider Mike Lancaster earned his first PM Race Podium finish with a 3rd in the XC2 class. Over the course of the past few years Greg’s ATV has helped many riders earn their first ever national podium appearance in the XC2 class including Gabe Phillips, Matt Hanna, Pat McGuire and now they have added Mike to that list.

“Although this had to be collectively one of the worst races of the year for our team we are still holding our heads high” commented McNemar “it was a shame we were struck with the bad luck so close to home but we will utilize the break to better ourselves and come back swinging in September.”

GNCC RACE REPORT – SNOWSHOE

COSHOCTON, OH, July 1, 2011– Snowshoe is always an interesting event; the Greg’s ATV team was ready to compete and welcomed the tracks many challenges. “We were ready to head to Snowshoe” commented McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “we all worked extremely hard in preparation for the weekend and were hoping for a successful race day.”

Women’s class competitor Angel Atwell would put together a solid race on a challenging morning course filled with bottlenecks. She would push forward to place 2nd which has her tied for 2nd place in the points standing’s with her niece Kristen Atwell. Fellow morning Greg’s ATV support riders Brycen Neal and Kenny Rich Sr. would also place well in their respective classes. Brycen, who competes’ in the SchoolBoy A/B class would win by nearly a half hour and finish 17th overall while Kenny placed second in the Masters 50+ class for his best finish of 2011.

The afternoon event would only bring more positive momentum for the Greg’s ATV team. Gabe Phillips would continue his streak and place 2nd in the XC2 class with a solid 7th place overall. Patrick McGuire would place 3rd in the XC2 class, after leading the first two laps, which has him sitting in 3rd place in the points standing’s. Pat would finish in 8th place overall for the day. Matt Hanna would run in the top five but would get hung up in a bad mud section which cost him to fall back to 9th. PM event support rider Michael Lancaster would place 10th in XC2, Aaron Delancy of the Senior B 40+ would grab the win and Dave Barton would grab 3rd in the Vet B 30+ class.

GNCC RACE REPORT – ROCK RUN

COSHOCTON, OH, June 2, 2011– After torrential rain at round six, the Greg’s ATV team began preparing for round seven, which was to be held in Patton Pennsylvania. “We always welcome a new GNCC location” commented McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “it gives everyone a change of pace and a new track to compete on.”

The women’s class would prove to be exciting; Greg’s ATV rider Angel Atwell would put in a solid run and contend for her second win of the season. A late pit strategy would not go as planned with lapped traffic and the minimal passing opportunities. However, Angel would fight back to put herself in striking distance but would take the checkered in third place right behind Traci Cecco and Kristen Atwell.

SchoolBoy A/B support rider Brycen Neal has had an impressive season thus far earning six top five finishes. His goal for round seven was to capture his second win; in a hard fought race with point’s leader Jay Shadron, Brycen would put his machine out front and take the round seven win. In addition, he was able to finish a respective sixteenth overall in the morning race.

In the XC2 ProAm ranks all three of the Greg’s ATV competitors saw the podium. Coming off his best career finish in Indiana, Pat McGuire would hope to get his first win of the season. He would grab the early hole shot and would fight throughout the entire race to finish as close to the front as possible. He would end the day in a solid fifth place finish and thirteenth overall. Gabe would again claim the number two spot, putting his Greg’s ATV machine on  the podium yet again while Matt Hanna had his bets run of the season placing third and tenth overall.

“I cannot say enough about my team” said McNemar “they work so hard and it is paying off. Kudos to Walker Fowler on his overall win this past weekend, we promise to give you the race you are looking for before the season is complete.”

COSHOCTON, OH, April 18, 2011– Four rounds are down in the 2011 GNCC season and the Greg’s ATV race team is pushing forward and gaining momentum with all three of their XC2 ProAm riders placing in the top ten. “As we entered the 2011 season I hope for my riders to give each round everything they had” commented Greg McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “despite a couple of bad luck issues, they have done that.”

Women’s competitor Angel Atwell was hoping to grab her second win of the season; unfortunately she would take a rock through her radiator early in the race which caused her to lose all of the coolant. The team would try to keep her going throughout the morning event, but her quad would finally seize in the last lap preventing her from finishing the race. This finish places Angel third in the class point standing’s heading into round five.

As the afternoon heated up the XC2 crew took the course in hopes of securing another solid round of racing. Gabe Phillips would have another strong race, running up front nearly the entire afternoon, placing second behind Balance Racing’s Walker Fowler. This finish has Gabe in a solid second place position in the class point standing’s. Patrick McGuire would have his best XC2 finish, placing fourth and twelfth overall. This is by far one of Patrick’s favorite courses and it showed. Matt Hanna would have a few issues during the day which would hinder him from breaking into the front of the pack, he would place 9th in round four and is on a mission for a better finish in Tennessee.

“We have had a good start to the year” said McNemar “we will continue to work hard in preparation for the next round. Tennessee is always and interesting event and we are looking forward to it.”

GNCC RACE REPORT – ROUND 3
COSHOCTON, OH, March 30, 2011
– Preparing for a muddy event the Greg’s race team prepped and prepared their machine’s for some challenging conditions. “Ya know, we were prepared for Mother Nature and the muddy conditions that were forecasted” commented Greg McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “but luckily she never showed up.” The Greg’s ATV team prepared for the worst but it turned out to be a good day for the entire crew.

Gabe Displays his second place hardware

Angel Atwell would get off to a decent start; she would make her way through the pack, taking over the second place position early in the third lap. She pushed to catch the leader and gain the top spot but would run into lapped traffic which in the end would unfortunately cause her to fall to third place by the checkered flag. “Angel had a great ride” said McNemar “as everyone knows, Steele Creek is great but the lapped traffic can play a big role in the outcome of the race.” Angel is currently tied for first place in the Women’s class with Yamaha competitor Traci Cecco.

Angel ties for first place in points standings

The XC2 ProAm race was very exciting for the Greg’s ATV crew; Gabe Phillips would put in an extremely solid ride to go from fifth to third within the first three laps. Gabe would push himself and would take over the number two spot from Eric Hoyland on the final lap. This finish places Gabe fourth in the ProAm class standing’s. Fellow Greg’s ATV rider Matt Hanna would earn his best finish to date in the ProAm class; finishing fourth place which was accompanied by a fourteenth overall finish in the PM race. This finish gives Matt eighth place in the point standings heading into round four. Patrick McGuire also had a good ride and would earn a top ten finish which leaves him holding onto seventh in the XC2 class.

“We are looking forward to heading down to Union, SC” commented McNemar “I had a change in plans, I will be able to attend this round and offer trackside support. As always, all racers are welcome to stop by our pit area for trackside support or just to say hi. See everyone in two weeks.”

GNCC RACE REPORT – ROUNDS 1 & 2

COSHOCTON, OH, March 16, 2011– The kick off of the 2011 GNCC season has commenced and the newly formed Greg’s ATV & Cycle Team is now home preparing for the third round of racing.

The sands of Florida are known for both their demand on machine and rider; Angel Atwell was the first to hit the course in the Women’s class. This was the first time Angel was able to ride her new race machine built by Greg McNemar; with the added power her machine produces she was able to get off to a great start. In lap three Angel fell to third but pushed hard to gain back second position and made a charge for the lead in the fifth and final lap. Angel would earn herself a solid second place finish when the checkered flew.

In the afternoon race Gabe Phillips, Matt Hanna and Patrick McGuire would line up on the XC2 ProAm line in hopes of putting their machines out front early. Gabe would earn himself the early lead in the XC2 class and at one point in the race he actually led the overall with time adjustments. He pushed himself extremely hard on the rough course which led him to an outstanding second place finish followed by Patrick who placed eighth after a hard ride. Matt would get off to a good start but would unfortunately run into trouble on the second lap when he clipped a tree which bent his front end badly and consequently ended his day early.

“Our main goal in Florida was to simply save the bikes and make it out in one piece,” commented Greg McNemar, owner of Greg’s ATV & Cycle “which we did pretty well. Matt damaged his bike but luckily it was his practice bike, he had his new race machine ready for Georgia. The week in between the first and second round we headed north to do some further testing, then headed to Aonia Pass in hopes of a great race.”

Heading north to Georgia and the familiar terrain was welcomed by the team, and with the additional testing and tuning that was done prior to the event the riders were ready for round number two. In the morning race Angel Atwell had a rocky start; she remained close to the leaders all day moving into the second place position as she headed into the fifth and final lap. Seeing an opening to take the lead with a few miles left in the race Angel capitalized and was able to gain the lead. It was a close finish but she held off competitors Traci Cecco and Kristen Atwell to take the win.

Once again the three Greg’s ATV & Cycle Pro Am riders would line up in hopes of a win. Gabe would suffer from a last place start but redeemed himself by making his way through the class quickly to move into the top five. Unfortunately, Gabe stalled his machine and was unable to get it re-fired due to a faulty second battery in the 24 volt system. He was forced to bump start his bike, but the damage had been done, he rode a smooth ride from there on out to finish the race. Patrick would put in a solid ride after starting the race in sixteenth position. He made his way through the pack and was able to earn a seventh place finish. Matt Hanna had a great ride getting off to a mid pack start but rode a very consistent race which gave him the best team finish in XC2 ProAm class of sixth place, seventeenth overall.

“I truly feel that my riders had an amazing start to the season, they truly came through big in both rounds. Sure we had our share of bad luck but that is cross country racing. What impresses me is their ability to shake off the negativity, stay positive and continue to work hard towards the end goal. We are all focused on preparing for round number three; this is going to be a great year.” Stated Greg McNemar

Greg’s ATV & Cycle Team would like to thank all of their team sponsors:
Gabe Phillips: Waynesburg Yamaha, ATV Four Play, HMF, MSD Powersports, Elka, Maxxis, HiPer, Silkolene, Quad Tech, Fasst Co., BlingStar, Tire Balls, IMS, Pro Taper, CP Pistons, Precision, Houser-Racing, PowerMadd, X Country Photos, Scott USA, G4 graphics.
